Exhibition Visit
This week I went to a Exhibition in town at a really cool new bar. It is called Twenty Twenty Two and its a basement bar, it had ping pong tables so there is a fun atmosphere. The exhibition was spread out through the bar and there was some really cool art work. They had this really cool optical illusion image of a smiley face, seeing as how I am now looking into optical illusions I thought it would be relevant to document.

Stop motion - 1st attempt
I have began to develop my ideas into moving animated clips through an app i have on my phone called stop motion.
Back in 6th form I did a project on distortion and hidden identity, funnily enough that lead me onto clowns and the circus. I found the whole idea of a person having a warped sense of identity because they weren't themselves on the surface. Anyways this project made me think of that and so I thought a great way to start of my first stop motion is to start of as myself and gradually loose my self my own identity and become this clown.
No name no nothing just any old clown. I liked this idea and it think the way I did it was good because I got across this transformative and eery quality. In the end it didn't work too well as it was a bit too literal so I will look for something else.
I do think I can put videos on here so I will just put pictures up of each frame. Visual aids are helpful.

Some interesting images
I found this collection of really interesting images showing all sides of a fairground and circus life.
They show the good the bad and the ugly. I really like all the images I feel like they paint a very clear picture of circuses and fairground a hundred or so years ago. I cannot be specific as there is very little detail about these images. They don't know anything about the photographer or even where the images were taken but it doesn't really matter when or where they were taken they speak for themselves. Every day life with in a fairground or circus was hard work. It wasn't glamorous or magical it was a very transient life to lead. These images show a raw unadulterated side of circuses and fairs with out the magic and glamour.

One of my favourite images is this one below. I like the light distortion from the carousel, It is easy to see how Fairgrounds were viewed and wonderful and magical places. Especially at night when the lights really give off this glow and make everything more interesting and alluring.

Picture development
I have been developing my ideas further over my easter break. I have been looking into the atmosphere of a fairground. It is a combination of lights a buzz from th people and excitement of children.
I have been playing around with this idea of children in the fairground and how their parent are happy to let them wonder from ride to ride enjoying them selves. But what would happen if the environment or atmosphere changed?
Would parents still feel the same level of comfort and confidence of leaving their small ones to roam around free?
I took some pictures when we were out at Pleasure Beach, I have edited them to make them look older and eerier. I really like how they have turned out. It helped that the park was closed as it was empty and eerie itself but I like how much these images have changed from their originals.

Fairgrounds
The word fairground to mean bring to mind images of candy floss rides and clowns. I associate the circus with a fairground as in my experience they are a package deal.
colours and lights ferris wheels and carousels.
When I think about it in more depth a fairground is just an illusion which is best showcased at night.
The fair grounds are presented in a way that you cannot ignore it and walk past it is there to lure you in. What with it's many twinkling lights loud happy music and intoxicating aromas of candy floss and pop corn. It is a mirage or oasis in a sum what ordinary area.
What is a fairground when it is not being presented as a fairground?
Any other space? Still a fairground?
Is it still a area what you would willingly let you children roam free? I think not. When a fairground is not presented as such it is a dark eery place that people would avoid.
But that is all in the illusion we are meant to perceive what we are shown, not to get curious and peek behind the curtain.

Film & music drawings
I started off with just one pencil but then started using two pencils taped together to get a 3D effect which looked really effective. I changed the scale colour and medium I drew in, after the scroll drawing we moved onto film.
We painted directly onto it which was pretty cool as I love films but film itself isn't something I'm not too familiar with and it was a great way to make film more tactile and real as we used it as a drawing surface which was cool. At the end of the day we played the film and watched our drawings come to life. I really like the work I produced, I enjoyed my day thoroughly.
Below are some images of my work and the film drawings.
