We were told to start to develop some designs that we could bring ingot the 3D printer, I thought well it will go for something that relates to the brain. I started to think about how I view the surface of the brain, the textures to it. All I could think of was the uneven bumpy, lumpy surface. That is what I tried to replicate, I made a very uneven surface out of circles. I think my sample came out very well, the 3D printer is an incredible piece of technology. I intend to use it again later on when ever I get the chance. The possibilities are endless and now they are bringing out more materials that can be used in it. I can't wait to explore more with the 3D printer as I really like how my sample turned out so to see what else I could produce would be a fun experience.

Inspiring Lecture
We had a lecture this week and a woman named Daksha Patel spoke to us, she was telling us all about her work and it all really related to my project and I really like all of it. All the work she had produced was very interesting and inspiring. I really enjoyed the talk and she has influenced my work with in my project. I especially like her use of scale, colours and the incredible fat drawing. She drew a human brain in fat and it's really incredible. I have taken a screen shots of her website just of the images I particularly like the most.

Laser cutting
My first experience with the laser cutter was one I won't soon forget. It is £10 for one hour so you want to arrive fully prepared and ready to go. Me I arrived late and with no idea what I was doing, I had a few samples cut at the end of the hour after a lot of hair pulling and time waisted. I had one wood sample cut which I really liked and then I moved onto the fabrics, I wanted to get as many samples I could and on a variety of fabrics and surfaces. I went in with some designs that I had made from my original brain drawing. I wanted to get them cut but I hadn't realised that I had to put it all through certain software etc. I learnt that thicker fabrics were the better medium for me to use as my designs were so intricate that the thin fabric fell apart as shown below in the images.
The wooden brain, my first cut. I really like the smokey look the burnt wood gives my design. I will definitely be using wood again in the laser cutter.

I used some perspex and got some designs and pieces cut out
This is the laser cutter that I used to produce all my samples

Laser cutting Designs
I created a variety of designs to be brought into the Laser cutter, I started out with my original brain photo then in Illustrator I played around with the shape, size position etc. I came out with some pretty cool looking designs. I like the idea of taking something that we perceive as a tool or just an organ into something delicate and beautiful.

Task 3
Task 3 was work over the christmas holidays, we had to do 100 drawings I tried to just get them done, looking back on it now I should have thought more about what I was drawing and how these drawings were reflecting on my work and helping my concept to develop. I did take all the drawing inspiration from a book Tiny Pencil drawings. I mapped my way through the book taking inspiration from the drawings. The book was really inspiring and I really enjoyed using it for my drawings. The book is displayed below. I had to factor in the shapes whilst drawing as these drawing were the starting point for our laser cutting designs so they had to be simple shapes with little to no detail.
