Distortion and Manipulation

After last weeks waisted hours I have now moved onto to a different idea, this one is that instead of looking at the brain as a whole thing and how it's all crushed up I will view it as something to has space to stretch out something that can be unravelled and manipulated easily. I took some images and distorted them to try and make the brain look more interesting. I have also been using my dyed fabric as i have been cutting out segments of the brain and taping them to my fabric so when I cut them out I will have some interesting and colourful pieces and i can play around with them and see what happens. I also wanted to have a vague idea of what they may look like so I played around with my fabrics and my perspex cutouts, the results were good so I'm hoping when I do it for real it works well.

Print room work

Last week I went into the print room and dyed loads of fabrics in relation to my Graffiti idea. I really like how these came out as the effect on some of the fabrics looks very veiny and can link in nicely. I also had a go at Marbling my fabrics as I really liked the effects it gave. Again looking back these don't really relate to my concept but I think i can still use them in other aspects of this project as background etc. They all came out really well and i really enjoyed producing them. They also have a very fluid feel to them which loosely relates to my subject matter.

Graffiti

This week I felt a bit stuck, I have loads of ideas but they don't always relate well to my concept or I convey them too literally. I went and spoke to Mark & Julie and I got some inspiration. I started to take the brain apart, not looking at it as a whole the shapes that make up the object itself. I found this quite interesting, I then started to look more closely at each individual shape. When I looked at one i thought it looked very similar to Graffiti so I thought I would try to translate my selected verbs in this graffiti like style. Looking back on it now I see that I went off on a bit of a tangent but i still enjoyed the process and i like the work i got out of it, it just doesn't completely relate to my concept. I started off with making my own graffiti. When ever I see it there is a mess of colour and it's all a bit chaotic. I then had this idea of akin my words into little 3D objects as we had been told to try and come up with other ways of making things 3D. I really like how it came out but it doesn't really relate to my work so may have been time used badly.

CP session

I went to the right on building and saw all these really interesting dated materials this week. The session was on because it is visual research for our CP essay, I don't get graded on mine as I did a language last term but I still went along for a look. They are incredible as they are all so old but still beautiful. I only took photos of the materials and items that interested me. It was all fascinating and I think I could come back and use these images for inspiration later on in my course.
